I-80 sinkhole near Truckee, California forced the closure of the east and westbound lanes of the interstate highway on Friday morning, August 24, 2013. Motorist heading to and from Sacramento and Bay areas were affected by the I-80 sinkhole.

The Department of Transportation officials say that over 8-foot-deep sinkhole opened up in Donner Pass Road along I-80 due to corroded culvert along the highway.

After the assessment of the California Highway Patrol, the westbound lane was reopened at around 10:40 a.m. In the afternoon, at about 2:45 p.m. all lanes has been reopened, according to the Sacramento Bee.

Reports say that workers are still in the area and in the final stages of fixing the 3-foot-wide I-80 sinkhole.
