Hurricane Maria: National Hurricane Center Issues Advisory, Maria in Newfoundland

Hurricane Maria is now in Newfoundland as the National Hurricane Center (NHC) issued its advisory, Friday, September 16, 2011. Hurricane Maria is “losing tropical characteristics as it races toward Newfoundland,” it says.

NHC says, on Friday September 16, that Hurricane Maria is located 46.4N 53.8W, and is about 40 miles of Cape Race, Newfoundland. It has maximum sustained winds of 75 mph or 120 kilometers per hour. Its present movement is Northeast or 40 degrees at 54 mph, and a minimum central pressure of 933 mb.

Hurricane Maria is the third hurricane, aside from Irene and Katia.
