A house in the middle of a highway can be found in China, international news sites reported on Friday, November 23, 2012.

According to reports, the house, as shown below, is owned by Luo Baogen and his wife. Luo, a duck farmer, said that his family spent 600,000 yuan ($95,000) on his newly completed house when the government offered him to move out for 220,000 yuan ($35,000). The offer has gone up to 260,000 yuan ($41,000) but they still refuse the offer.

“We want a new house on a two-unit lot with simple interior decoration,” Luo was quoted as saying in the reports.

Most of their neighbors already moved out, their properties demolished, to make way for a highway heading to a newly built railway station on the city of Wenling in Zhejiang povince.

Reports said that Luo‘s house still has electricity and water. He and his wife sleep in separate parts of the house to deter any partial demolition.

Such house is also called a “nail house,” because the owners refused to be hammered down by the government, reports said.
