Hotmail was replaced by Outlook.com officially, as Microsoft begins to automatically change Hotmail email addresses to Outlook. The complete transition to all of its users is being expected this summer, with Microsoft noting that there are 60 million Outlook.com users in just six months.

As announced at Outlook.com blog on Monday, February 18, 2013, a preview of Outlook email service was released last July 2012 as a replacement to Hotmail; and made a lot of improvements since then. Now, Microsoft is saying that it is now time to fully replace Hotmail with Outlook email.

But no worries to Hotmail users, converting their email addresses to @outlook.com is simple and painless. Going to Hotmail.com will be redirected to Outlook.com, but users will first have the option to switch it via Settings, or to keep on using Hotmail until Microsoft has fully migrated Hotmail to Outlook.com.

And as Outlook.com have highlighted in their new video preview, this new free email service allows users to interact with each other across social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. It also supports the latest versions of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Safari.

Among the key features of the Outlook.com email service is the Active View, where users can directly interact with the contents and functionality within their email message. This includes photo attachments and functionality from various websites such as YouTube and Flickr, which can now be previewed directly.

In addition, the design of the new Outlook.com promises to make it easier to send hundreds of photos, videos and other form of attachments in just a single message–all powered by SkyDrive, where almost of the users have already been using in sharing photos.

Should Gmail and Yahoo email users give this a try?
