Honda Recall 2011: Nearly 1 million cars worldwide involved including Philippines due to Power Windows problem

Honda Motors announced on Monday, September 05, 2011 a voluntary recall of nearly 1 million cars worldwide including Philippines to repair power windows and computer equipment.

As noted at Wall Street Journal that day, this latest Honda recall 2011 involves 936,000 Fit compacts, CR-V and City models in the US, Europe and some countries in Asia.

“There were nine reported cases of vehicles catching on fire in Japan and China due to the power-window problem.” A Honda spokeswoman was quoted on the report, with both countries included in the recall.

In addition, Honda will also recall 26,000 CR-Z hybrid models in Japan, the U.S., Canada and other markets due to power-window main switch and control problem.

According to a press release issued by Honda America on their official website also that day, their company will recall 80,111 units of CR-V 2006 model to replace the power window master switch.

Although the car manufacturer emphasized that no injuries or casualties have been reported related to the problem, but electrical contacts in the said switch may lead to fire.

In addition, Honda America will also recall 5,626 CR-Z 2011 model vehicles with manual transmissions, to upgrade the software controls the hybrid electric motor to avoid crash.

Apparently, there are also no related reports on injury or casualties but the car company noted that the electric motor could possibly rotate in the direction opposite to that selected by the transmission.

Honda America said they will inform affected owners of these two US recalls late this month via mail, and suggested that notified owners should immediately bring their vehicles to an authorized dealer.

Meanwhile, Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI) is informing the public that around 19,143 units of Honda Jazz, City and CR-V vehicles are included in the recall.

Voltaire Gonzales, head of HCPI corporate communications and vehicle sales, announced the Honda recall in the country on a press conference in Manila, as reported at ABS-CBN.com.

Apparently, around 13,352 units of Honda City models were reportedly included in the recall, which were assembled in the Philippines between 2006 and 2008.

Additionally, 2,924 Honda Jazz cars (2005 to 2007 models) and 2,867 Honda CR-V (2005 to 2006 models) are also included, with both vehicles noted to be imported completely built-up from Thailand.

HCPI said that they will send letters to respective owners starting Tuesday, September 6; and affected parts will be replaced with free of charge and will not take an hour.
