Hit Me Up (HMU) tops the list of Facebook Memology Top 10 Status Trend for 2010

Facebook, on its second year of providing a Memology study, showed that HMU or ‘Hit Me Up’ tops the list of Top 10 Status Trend of 2010, as announced on their official blog on Tuesday.

According to it blog post created by Lars Backstrom, the acronym HMU or ‘Hit Me Up’ is being used by Facebook users when they were ready to meet their friends.

Apparently, Facebook said HMU was barely used last year but became rapidly being used throughout 2010, especially increased during summer breaks and weekends.

Last May 2009, HMU was said to have been used averaging 20 posts a day until it reached 1,600 daily at the end of the year.

When 2010 started, the use of HMU reportedly increased by 75% every month until it reached 80,000 mentions daily by the end of summer.

According to Facebook, the status updates across 236 countries were analyzed, while the rate at which each phrase occurred in 2010 was computed and compared that of last year’s.

Facebook also added that all personally identifiable information was removed from the status updates when this analysis was conducted, and were grouped into categories for the global list that follows.
