According to a report by TechCrunch’s MG Siegler on Monday, July 25, 2011, he found Facebook’s iPad app via a hidden code inside a current iPhone app.

“Yes, it’s real, and it’s spectacular (well, very good, at the very least). And yes, it really is right there within the code.” MG Siegler wrote, adding that he has been using it for the past couple of hours.

“I can’t be sure if this is the version they’ll actually ship, but based on everything I’ve seen, I’m going to assume it’s at least very close to the version they’re going to ship.” Siegler explained.

As noted by Siegler, the Facebook iPad app, unlike the iPhone app, uses a left-side menu system that can be accessed via a touch button or a flick of the iPad screen.

Apparently, the app also has the same overlay menus found in other iPad apps, as the list of online friends can be seen if the iPad is being flipped horizontally and Facebook activities such as chat can also be performed.

Last month, The New York Times reported that a source told them this Facebook iPad app is underway and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is currently investing on this process.

“The photo and video experience is amazing, offering full resolution and full-screen images,” The New York Times wrote, which was revealed to them by an unnamed source that has seen the said app.

Meanwhile, TechCrunch, which has more photos of the Facebook iPad app on their site, also noted that a Canadian engineering student, Marvin Bernal, have also noticed this hidden app and tweeted about it.

“If you change the UIDeviceFamily to 2 for iPhone on the Facebook app you get an iPad version!” Marvin Bernal (@AeroEchelon) tweeted on Sunday, who also posted a screenshot of the app.
