Hello Kitty Theme Park In China Designed Jointly By Sanrio And Hettema

Sanrio Co., the Japanese maker of Hello Kitty character goods, has agreed to work with a Chinese company to build the Hello Kitty Theme Park in the city of Anji, east of Zhejiang province in China, according to reports by several international news sites.

Hello Kitty Theme Park is reportedly designed jointly by Sanrio and Hettema, a US-based amusement park designer . The project will cost around $215 million and the construction is expected to start in the second half of the year and is estimated to be completed by 2014.

It is also reported that the complex will cover an area of 60 hectares (150 acres) and will include a theme park, hotel and catering services.

According to Liao Chunrong, president of Shanghai Insight Holdings, a subsidiary of the company will take care of the investment and management of the project.

Sanrio was founded in 1960 by Shintaro Tsuji, and is known for its wide-range of stationery, gifts and accessories bearing the Hello Kitty and Badtz-Maru characters.
