Heater Recall: Voluntary Recall of Air King And Lasko Heater Due To Potential Fire Hazard

About 100,000 heaters have been affected by the recall that was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on Tuesday, February 8, 2011. Portable electric space heaters have been recalled due to potential overheating which was said to be a serious recall because it could cause fire hazard problem, international news reported.

According to Lasko‘s statement issued on their website, 36 reports were already received due to electrical connection overheating, 18 of which was said to have caused minor damage to floors or carpeting.

Heaters affected with the recall are portable heaters with Lasko model 5540 and Air King model 8540.

“The Model 5540 and Air King Model 8540 heaters are oscillating ceramic heaters that are silver and gray with black vents. The name “Lasko” is printed at the top of the Model 5540. The name “Air King” is printed at the top of the Model 8540. Affected Model 5540 units were sold primarily through Sam’s Club and other retailers from 2002 through 2004. Affected Air King Model 8540 units were sold primarily through W.W. Grainger, Inc. during the same time period.”
