Hailee Steinfeld and Matthew Libatique, of Filipino Descent, are Nominees to the Oscars 2011

Hailee Steinfield and Matthew Libatique who are both of Filipino descent are nominees to the Oscars this 2011. Hailee Steinfield was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress for her role in True Grit, and Matthew Libatique for Best Cinematography. This was reported by International Entertainment sites, January 25. 2011.

Hailee Steinfield is of Filipino descent because her mother is a Filipino, African-American and European American descent, while her father is of Jewish descent. She landed supporting roles on TV and movies when she was still 8 years old, and since then, she took part in teen supporting roles.

She has been nominated also to a lot of award giving bodies, like the London Film Critics Circle Award for Actress of the Year, and the BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Leading Role. These are two of the most popular award giving bodies in the International entertainment industry.

Hailee Steinfield was also nominated by the Chicago Film Critics Association Award for Most Promising Performer. Aside from this, she was also nominated for a lot more awards from different movie organizations.

The 83rd Academy Awarding Ceremonies will be held at the end of February, 2011. Hailee Steinfield’s nomination to the Academy Awards is enough proof of her talent as an actress.

On the other hand, Matthew Libatique, is of Filipino-American descent as well and has been nominated for Best Cinematography for the movie, Black SwanLibatique worked with Julie Dash and Spike Lee on music videos.  He had also worked on several movies like Protozoa and Iron Man and is a well known name in cinematography.
