As noted at on Wednesday, the Gumby man entered the convenience store at around 12 am (local time) on Monday and made a robbery attempt but left empty handed.

According to the report, San Diego police said the clerk admitted he did not know the character Gumby and described it as ‘green Spongebob Squarepants‘.

Gumby is a green clay humanoid figure and the main character in ‘The Gumby Show‘, a family-oriented animated show that ran from 1955 to 1989 in NBC on its original TV series.

In the video, the Gumby man can be seen raising his hands above his head while entering the store, along with another man. Later, he approached the cashier and reportedly declared a hold-up.

Apparently, San Diego Police Detective Gary Hassen said the clerk did not believe him and thought it was a joke; and even told Gumby to go back to cleaning.

However, Gumby insisted that he is serious and reached to his pocket as if he is getting something to scare the store clerk but got nothing, with his accomplice leaving him alone.

Minutes later, the thief-in-disguise gave up his effort as his companion waiting outside in their supposed getaway vehicle on the parking lot, which was described as a light-colored mini-van.

After a while, Gumby can be seen on the video leaving the store bringing nothing, and was said to have even dropped 26 cents from his pocket. The clerk said he reported the incident to the store manager upon arriving at 6 a.m.

As of this writing, the real identity of the Gumby man is not yet known but a $1,000 reward is being offered for any information that will lead to his arrest.
