Grand Prize Winner of the National Geographic Photo Contest 2010

National Geographic Magazine has announced its winners for the National Geographic Photo Contest 2010. The Grand Prize winner will receive $10,000 and a photography seminar in January 2011 at the National Geographic headquarters in Washington D.C.

The winners of this prestigious contest were announced on December 16, 2010. The three top awards were given to three categories, namely places, people and nature. The Grand Prize winner is Aaron Boon Teck from Singapore. He has won the Nature Category as well. The winning picture was a photograph of the Gunung Rinjani volcano in Indonesia, while it was erupting.

The second and third prize winners were awarded to Chan Kwok Hung from Hongkong for his buffalo race photo and Jana Asenbrennerova from San Francisco, for her photograph of ship breakers in Chittagong, Bangladesh.

There were 16,000 pictures submitted from all over the world by hopeful amateur and professional photographers. More entries can be viewed at the National Geographic site ngm.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/photo-contest/.
