A driver survived when his car plunged over the edge of the Grand Canyon, several news sites reported on Wednesday.

According to reports, the car was found lodged against a tree at approximately 200 feet below the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Reports said that a park visitor found the injured driver, a 21-year old man, along a stretch of Desert View Drive at about 7:45pm on Monday. The driver told the visitor that he had accidentally driven his car over the edge of the canyon.

He reportedly told park rangers that he had extricated himself from the crashed car and climbed to the rim to look for help.

According to Grand Canyon National Park spokeswoman Maureen Oltrogge, the driver was treated at Flagstaff Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries. The identity of the man has not been released by Oltrogge until the park rangers have finished their investigation.

The car was still at the scene on Wednesday and park officials were still planning on how to retrieve it, Oltrogge said.
