Google Photography Prize: Viktor Johansson is 2012 Contest Winner (Photo)

Viktor Johansson is the winner of the 2012 Google Photography Prize contest, according to a BBC News report on Wednesday, April 25, 2012.

The Swedish student won the Google Photography contest for his series of photographs that documented Christoffer Eskilsson, Sweden‘s top male 10m diver.

Johansson, a photo-journalism student, bested nine other finalists. Almost 20,000 entries from 146 countries were submitted in the Google Photography contest., The 10 finalists will be displaying their entries at London‘s Saatchi Gallery from April 25 to July 22.

According to Nigel Hurst, gallery director, Johansson‘s work is “arresting and unexpected”. Hurst revealed that the panel of judges, that include gallery curator and photography writer Susan Bright, was “overwhelmed by the array of compelling, beautiful and diverse images.”

As a prize, the Swedish student will be mentored by a professional photographer while on a trip to any of his chosen destination.
