Google Doodle celebrates today, April 26, 2011, the 226th birthday of French-American ornithologist and painter John James Audubon, with a tweaked logo showing sketches of birds.

Unlike previous doodles, Google made it simple this time and the letters GOOGLE are barely recognizable amid the branches and colorful plumes of the birds which adorn the logo, created in the style of Audubon.

Audubon is being known for his book entitled “Birds of America”, which contains his own paintings and illustrations of various kinds of birds found in the United States.

According to some international news sites, an original print of Birds of Americawas sold at an auction in Sotheby’s, last December 2010 for $11.5 million and considered a record price for a printed book.

John James Audubon was born on April 26, 1785 in Les Cayes, Saint Domingue. He passed away at the age of 65 on January 27, 1851 in Manhattan, New York.
