GLAAD, an anti-defamation organization and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) media advocacy in the US, gives honors to artists, media projects and presentation that offer fair and just treatment to their community.

The 22nd GLAAD Media Awards also celebrates its 25th year anniversary, as the group looks back at those years of hard work to gain respect and building acceptance through LGBT images in the media.

“This year’s nominees represent some of the images and stories at the root of the growing acceptance of our community and support for our equality.” GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios said on the press release.

For 2011, GLAAD has 114 nominees in 23 English-language categories and 33 Spanish-language nominees in 9 categories; where cable networks in the English-language categories garnered 22 nominations, while broadcast networks had 11 nominations.

For movies, the nominees include The Kids Are All Right, I Love You Phillip Morris, Burlesque, The Girl Who Played with Fire, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and Howl.

On the other hand, TV nominations include Glee, Greek, True Blood, Brothers & Sisters, Nurse Jackie, Modern Family, and Pretty Little Liars.

Outstanding TV Talk Show Episode nominees include “Constance McMillen” for The Ellen DeGeneres Show and “Ricky Martin Coming Out as a Gay Man and a New Dad” for The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Meanwhile, GLAAD added a new category this year to give recognition to independent blogs, for their contribution in the growing world of online media in shaping the present gay culture.

For the Outstanding Blog, the first nominees are The Bilerico Project, Blabbeando, Joe. My. God., Pam’s House Blend, and Rod 2.0, while Special Honorees for each city will be announced later.

The 22nd GLAAD Media Awards ceremonies will be held on March 19, 2011 at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square, and on May 14, 2011 at San Francisco Marriott Marquis, as well as in Los Angeles in which details will be announced later.
