Giant squid continues to wash up on Orange County beaches and brings a happy catch for Newport Beach fishermen and several other beaches, according to reports by several international news sites on Friday, September 23, 2011.

Reports said that some of the giant squid weighs as much as 20 lbs. Hundreds of giant squid carcasses were also washed up on San Clemente and Oceanside beaches.Fishermen were reportedly hauling the jumbo squid in multiple bags.

The giant squid, better known as Humboldt squid, are usually found in deep waters. Fish and Game warden believed that the giant squid died due to spawning. This phenomenon last occurred in Orange County two years ago.

Clean up operations on beaches started last Thursday, September 22.
