According WAPT-TV on Friday, a huge alligator gar was caught in Chotard Lake, Issaquena County by a certain Kenny Williams from Vicksburg, Mississippi.
“At first I didn’t think he was that big. But as I was getting him into the boat, it was like, How big is this thing? It was a lot of effort just to get him into the boat.” Williams was quoted as saying.
“I don’t even know how to describe it. It was just huge and hard to get into the boat.” He added, as the report said that the giant alligator gar weighed an astonishing record of 327 lbs.
Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) biologists measured the giant fish, measuring at 8 ft and 5 ¼ inches long and 47.95 inches around the body, in which officials say that it could be the largest alligator gar ever caught.
MDWFP told the report that a 302-lb alligator gar was caught in 1963, while the International Game Fish Association recorded that in 1951, a 279-lb alligator gar was pulled off from Rio Grande in Texas.
Alligator gar is being considered as the largest species of gar, and the common of which may reach to 7-8 ft, weighing from 100 to 120 pounds.
Meanwhile, wildlife officials said that Mr. Williams donated the monster fish, which was about 50-70 years old, to the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science in Jackson.
