George Michael UK Symphonica Concert Tour postponed due to pneumonia, resume dates still unknown

The George Michael Symphonica Concert Tour in UK has been postponed after the British singer was diagnosed with pneumonia, is now being treated in a hospital. Resume dates are still unknown.

As announced at on Friday, November 25, 2011, the remaining dates on his UK Symphonica tour have been postponed after his doctors said he needs complete rest.

George Michael has severe community acquired pneumonia and is being treated as an inpatient. His condition has stabilized and he is responding to treatment.” A statement reads on the singer’s official website.

“From the current point of view, the time until recovery cannot be estimated, but he will not be able to perform the rest of the tour. Besides medical treatment, complete rest and peace and quiet are mandatory.” The statement added.

According to the press release, the 48-year old “Faith” singer is currently being treated in a hospital in Vienna, Austria. He is receiving excellent medical care and is responding to treatment and slowly improving.

His doctors are Prof. Dr. Christoph Zielinski, Chairman, Department of Medicine General Hospital – Medical University Vienna, Austria and Prof. Dr. Thomas Staudinger, Specialist in Internal Medicine and Intensive Care Medicine.

Apparently, the cancellation of the George Michael Europe concert started last Monday, November 21 in Stadthalle, Vienna, and was followed by his November 23 concert in Strasbourg, France.

In addition, two more concert dates were announced canceled last Wednesday, which are supposed to be on November 26 and 27 (Saturday and Sunday) in Cardiff, Wales due to his illness.

Meanwhile, it was also announced that day the canceled show Royal Albert Hall in London, which was supposed to be last October 26, was moved to another date, Wednesday, May 2, 2012.

As of this writing, discussions and preparations are still on-going for the rescheduled dates and will be announced as soon as possible. For the meantime, tickets holders are being requested to keep their tickets.

George Michael, born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou, rose to fame in the 1980s when he and his school friend, Andrew Ridgeley, formed the music duo “Wham!” but they separated in 1986.

Nevertheless, Michael‘s first solo song “Careless Whisper” while they were still together was said to have sold about six million copies worldwide. He released his first solo album “Faith” in 1987.
