Jamie Kuntz, a gay football player for North Dakota State College of Sciences in Wahpeton, said he was dismissed after he was caught kissing his 65-year old boyfriend; but the university denied the accusation and noted that he was axed because he violated the school rules.

According to ABC News on Wednesday, September 12, 2012, Kuntz, 18, a freshman linebacker of the said university with a partial scholarship, told them that he was seen kissing his boyfriend in between plays over Labor Day weekend, when his team was on a break to discuss game strategies.
As noted in the report, Kuntz‘s boyfriend, who lives in Colorado, was watching the game and sat in the press box with the football player, who was then recovering from a concussion. The two shared a kiss and was seen by some people and his coach learned about him and talked to him after the game.
“It wasn’t a peck, but it wasn’t a hardcore makeout session. It was in between.” Kuntz told ABCNews.com, adding that he did not admit to his coach that the old man is his grandfather, not his boyfriend. “He asked me what happened in the press box and I played dumb. I said, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about.'”
“I wasn’t out at all and that’s a lot to unload on somebody on a question like that. I was kind of scared I would get kicked off if I told him the right answer.” Kuntz explains, when asked he did not tell the truth to his coach, that he is gay and has a much older boyfriend, but said he felt guilty and admit it later that day.
Last Monday, Sept 10, the gay football player said his coach told him that he is being dismissed from the team. He said he was shock upon hearing the bad news, and could not believe his being gay and the kissing incident will lead him to be removed from the team. He said he later decide to withdrew from the school.
“I chose to leave. The only reason I went there was for football.” Kuntz said, noting that things may be different if he was caught kissing a woman, even an older one, and that the main reason why he was dismissed because he is gay, which only his close friends know; and even hides it to his family.
On the other hand, North Dakota State College spokeswoman Barbara Spaeth-Baum talked to ABCNews.com and denied Kuntz‘ accusation; and that he was “dismissed from the team for a violation of the football team rules,” and not because he is gay or he was caught kissing his boyfriend
“It had nothing to do with his sexual orientation. Nothing. He wasn’t doing a task that he was assigned to do. On top of that, he lied about what he was doing or not doing, meaning not fulfilling his task. Our staff is trained and they certainly know what those reasons are and are fair to everyone involved.” Spaeth-Baum reportedly said.
