The family of Gamu Nhengu has finally received a favorable decision in their quest to stay in the United Kingdom (UK), as the Home Office reversed its earlier decision after a hearing in Glasgow, according to international reports. The 18-year-old Nhengu and her family are from Zimbabwe but has been living in Clackmannanshire for years now.

Due to procedural problems, the Home Office previously denied the visa renewal of Nokuthula Ngazana, mother of Gamu. An administrative error in the application was the basis for the earlier visa denial. But after the hearing in Glasgow, the Home Office decided to withdraw its previous decision to deny the Gamu family’s application. This was explained by Frances Farrell, the family’s lawyer as he expects to get the favorable decision at the earliest time.

After being denied last October, 2010, the family of Gamu was ordered to make a voluntary exit from the UK or they will be forced back to Zimbabwe.

Ngazana earlier gave the wrong bank details resulting to non-payment of the fee for the application and eventual denial of her visa renewal application.

However, the family was given the chance to make a full appeal hearing before immigration judge Mungo Deans.

During the hearing, a Home Office representative informed the judge that there was already an instruction to withdraw the original decision made on October 6, 2010, due to technicality.
