According to international news sites on Monday, August 29, 2011, Algerian foreign ministry announced their arrival that morning in Algeria and reported it to United Nation (UN).

“The wife of Muammar Gaddafi, Safia, his daughter Aisha, and sons Hannibal and Mohammed, accompanied by their children, entered Algeria at 08:45am (local time) through the Algeria-Libyan border.” Algerian foreign ministry was quoted at Al-jazeera news agency.

As noted in the reports, Algerian state TV featured the news in which their government has also informed the National Transitional Council (NTC), Libya’s currently recognized government.

“We made sure the international community has been informed,” Algerian ambassador to UN Mourad Benmehidi was quoted at CNN, citing that the news was relayed to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Apparently, NTC spokesman Mahmoud al-Shammam also told CNN they will demand the Gaddafi family members to go back to Libya and promised them a fair trial.

Meanwhile, the whereabouts of Muammar Gaddafi, who was declared “wanted” by the International Criminal Court (ICC), remain known, as well as his other sons Saif, Mutassim and Saadi.
