Baguio City, Philippines – The Gaces-Roque nuptials was held December 17, at the Baguio Cathedral with the reception following at the Baguio Convention Center (BCC). Reportedly, majority of the guests considered the wedding unique because of the blending of the military and ethnic wedding rituals.

The principal sponsors who were present during the wedding ceremony were Mayor Mauricio Domogan, Mayor Sammy Rosario (proxy for Vice-president Jejomar Binay), Baguio Congressman Bernardo Vergara, Carmelo Lazatin Jr. (proxy for Congressman Lazatin), Councilor Joel Alangsab, Ret. Police Director Alejandro Lapinid and his wife- Chica, Ms. Rowena Quejada, (proxy for Zambales Congresswoman Ma. Milagros Magsaysay), Mrs. Welsinore Lacadin, Mrs. Ma. Lourdes Pacia, Mrs. Venus Salapong, and Capt. Ma. Luisa Banola.

The unique celebration started with a simple military church wedding, where swords were drawn with the entrance of the young couple. It was the renewal of vows of the couple’s civil marriage 15 years ago. The best man and the bridesmaid were the couple’s two children Jousef Ivan (13), and Juisa Ivon (12).

After the church rites, it was followed by an ethnic celebration at the BCC. The young couple, PCI Juanito B. Gaces Jr. and Isa Roque Gaces, danced the Kalinga courtship and wedding dance to the tempo of the brass gongs.

It was highlighted with the Kalinga dancers performing the “taddok” (native dance) with some of the principal sponsors participating, to the delight of everyone.
