Frontier Natural recalls Nutmeg Ground products due to possible Salmonella contamination

Frontier Natural Products Co-ops announced a voluntary recall for two nutmeg-contained due to possible Salmonella contamination, according to US Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday.

In a press release issued by FDA on their official website, the said company is recalling two of their products, which were sold under the brand names Frontier and Whole Foods Market.

The recalled products contain nutmeg which were supplied by Mincing Overseas Spice Company, and were sold across the US and in some parts of Canada.

Below are details of the Nutmeg Ground which were affected by the recall.

Frontier Bulk / 16.00 oz. / 0-89836-00165-8 / 0306

Whole Foods 365 / 1.92 oz. / 0-99482-41931-8 / 0321

As shown in the photo below, the lot code on the bulk package can be found on the front label directly above the UPC code, while the lot code on the bottled glass product can be found on the bottom of the bottle.

As of this writing, there were no report of illness related to the said products, but FDA said that consumption of products with Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections especially to people with weak immune systems.

FDA also advised consumers not to consume these products, and immediately contact Frontier Products for replacement or reimbursement. The company said the public can call their office at 1-800-669-3275, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central time.

For the Whole Foods item, consumers are being advised to contact their local stores.
