Friday Box Office Hits: “Rio” Tops Box Office, “Madea’s Big Happy Family” Second

Rio” tops box office, earning more than $10 million to date.  The 3-D animation, family comedy was released April 15, 2011, and is directed by Carlos Saldanha.

Voice casting includes Anne Hathaway, Neil Patrick Harris, Rodrigo Santoro, Jake Austin and George Lopez. This was disclosed by entertainment news sites, Friday.

The Madea’s Big Happy Family comes second with $10.6 million and “Water for Elephants” came in third, with $7 million.

Hop”, “African Cats”, and Scream 4 came in 4th, 5th and 6th earning $4.9 million, $3.3 million and $2.8 million respectively.

The movie is about the adventures of Blu, a Spix Macaw, which is a type of endangered parrot. The setting is in a jungle near Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
