As noted at US news sites this week, Robin Robinson, a veteran news anchor, said during a live 9 p.m. newscast that Santa Claus is not real and does not exist, but apologized later.

“Stop trying to convince your kids that Santa is Santa,” Robinson told news co-anchor Bob Sirott during the segment “The Talker” on Tuesday night, after reporting about Santa Claus and the bad economy.

“That’s why they have these high expectations. They know you can’t afford it, so what do they do? Just ask some man in a red suit. There is no Santa.” Robinson added, who has been working at Fox since 1987.

However, the show received mixed reactions but most of them were negative comments from emails, phone calls and Facebook particularly those parents who watched that time with their young kids.

Robinson, 54, apologized on air on the same show and segment, noting that she did not realize kids are still awake and watching their show. She added that she do not want to make the same mistake again and advised parents that they are going to show some comment about Santa Claus again.

“It was careless and callous to say what I said in what could have been mixed company.” Robinson said, noting that she should have warned the parents the day before that they going to talk about Santa Claus.

“So many kids don’t get to be children that for those who can live the wonder and magic of Christmas, I would never spoil it intentionally. I sincerely apologize!” she added, showing on air the comments from public about her earlier action.

Robinson also showed some video clips of her interviewing people in the streets and asked their opinions on the effect of her saying on air that there is no real Santa Claus.

The segment ended by by reading a letter published in the New York Sun back in 1897 entitled “Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus,” and apologizing again.
