Ford Motor Company announced today, Thursday, July 19, 2012 a 2013 Ford Escape recall affecting around 11,500 units of the said model equipped with the 1.6-liter engine, to replace an engine compartment fuel line, which could split and leak fuel that may increase risk of fire.

According to a press release by Ford on its official media website, the recalled vehicles were built through July 11, 2012, and were produced and distributed for sale in North America, with most of them in the U.S. market, emphasizing that the problem does not occur when the engine is not running.

As noted by Ford, affected owners are strongly being advised to immediately stop using their vehicles and contact at once their respective dealers; noting that no other models are affected by this recall, which means the 2013 Ford Escape with 2.0-liter and the 2.5-liter engines are not included.

As of this writing, the car company said that they are working hard to make the affected parts available as soon as possible, and will stop delivering or conducting demonstration drives of these vehicles and will instead prioritize the solution to this recent recall on the dealership side.

“We have identified an issue and are taking quick actions in the best interest of our customers.” Ford Automotive Safety Office assistant director Ray Nevi was quoted in the report, noting that the repair is free of charge and will take less than an hour if parts are available.

“Our intensive investigation and testing has identified the area of concern and we are moving as quickly as possible to repair vehicles for our customers. In the meantime, it is extremely important that affected customers not ignore this recall and immediately contact their dealer.” Nevi added.

As an immediate action to this problem, Ford said that dealers will deliver a loaner vehicle to the affected customers and will transport their 2013 Escape to their respective dealership to make the necessary repairs, noting that no related injuries have been reported.
