The 2012 Ford recall include 245,000 Ford Escape SUV models 2001 and 2002. About 206,000 of the Ford recall are Freestar and Mercury Montery minivan models 2004 and 2005.

The NHTSA reported that the Ford recall was due to potential flaws that could trigger brake fluid leaks or loss of power. Affected SUV models has an outfitted brake master cylinder reservoir cap that could leak brake fluid and harm the wiring in the antilock brake system. US regulators explained that corrosion of the wiring harness connector could lead to melting, smoke or fire.

Minivans were recalled by Ford due to a defective torque converter that may cause the vehicle to lose “motive” power without warning and may lead to an increase in car crash.

Reports say that the Ford recall may be delayed due to a shortage in parts of Escape SUVs.

A statement by Ford explained that “If parts are not available, Ford will instruct owners to park their vehicles outside until such time as parts become available.”
