Jeff Bush was believed to be sleeping when the sinkhole collapsed underneath his bedroom and buried him alive at around 11:30 p.m.
After hearing a scream, Bush‘s 36-year-old brother rushed into the victim’s room and tried to pull him out of the sinkhole. The elder Bush was said to be an employee of the Florida Department Of Transportation.
Hillsborough County Fire Department spokesman, Jessica Damico, explained that
When he got there, there was no bedroom left.
There was no furniture. All he saw was a piece of the mattress sticking up.
There is no evidence of him being alive.
We put engineering equipment into the sinkhole and didn’t see anything compatible with life.
Lt. Donald Morris from Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said that the sinkhole is “the only one we’ve seen that opened up in this manner there is no evidence of the structure cracking or anything like that on the outside of the house.”
Initial investigation suggests that the sinkhole was actively developing. This prompted authorities to evacuate nearby residents as a precautionary measure. No one is allowed to get near the home because according to Damico, “The entire house is on the sinkhole.”
