Florida Sinkhole Opens in The Villages After Heavy Rainfall

A Florida sinkhole opened up in between two homes in a residential area known as “The Villages” on Saturday, April 19, 2014. Heavy rainfall in the area reportedly caused the sinkhole in the Florida community.

The latest Florida sinkhole is reportedly measuring over 25 feet across and 50 feet deep. Authorities dispatched crews in the area to refill it with soil.

It was the second Florida sinkhole in just a month. On Friday night, workers have just finished filling and securing an earlier sinkhole. The previous sinkhole is reportedly smaller.

With sinkholes opening frequently, residents are reportedly thinking of looking for property in other areas.

Officials declared that no injury was reported due to the Florida sinkhole. An immediate evacuation of affected residents were ordered.

Truck loads of soil is expected to be delivered and dumped into the latest and larger Florida sinkhole.

Florida is expected to threatened with more sinkholes in the following days due to the start of the rainy season.
