Flight attendants’ pay at American Airlines is reportedly at an average of $45,000 annually. However, the flight attendant’s pay will be lower for those who will be hired starting December, 2012.

American Airlines, with about 16,000 flight attendants, is reportedly trying to cut $1 billion in labor costs to rise from bankruptcy.

After 11 years, American Airlines announced that it will start posting job openings by November. About 1,500 will be hired to replace 2,205 flight attendants who accepted a $40,000 buyout to leave the company.

Those offered a buyout were flight attendants with at least 15 years of stay with the airline.

All newly hired flight attendants are scheduled for training in January, 2013.
