“Two years ago today, we tested the first photo upload to an app we called Codename. Three months later, in October 2010, Instagram launched to the public.” A statement reads at Instagram blog on Tuesday, July 16, along with the first Instagram photo.
“Today, 1 year and 9 months later, over 50 million people have shared more than 1 billion photos on Instagram. We’re humbled by the amazing photos shared every day on Instagram and the incredible community that’s formed around the application.” Instagram added.
Apparently, this is not the first time that the first Instagram photo was revealed online. It has been asked via Quora in November 2011 and community evangelist Jessica Zollman replied to the question and provided a link to the picture, saying that it was taken by Instagram‘s co-founder and CEO Kevin Systrom.
On the other hand, Instagram community manager Josh Riedel told Mashable that the foot shown in the photo belongs to Systrom‘s girlfriend. The identity of the dog and its owner are not known, although the pet was said to have been found in a Mexican taco store.
Last April 3, Instagram for Android was released and it was revealed that over 30 million accounts have been set up to that time. A week later, Facebook bought Instagram for about $1 billion, and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed that it was the first product the social networking site has ever bought.
