First Human Bird Flu Case In Hong Kong Confirmed

Hong Kong’s first human case of bird flu was diagnosed and is now seriously ill in hospital according to international news. It is the first human case of the disease to be diagnosed in Hong Kong territory since 2003.

A 59-year-old woman was reported to be seriously ill after a trip to China. She was diagnosed with Influenza A (H5) which is a variant of bird flu. It was not clear yet where she had contracted the disease.

According to Hong Kong health officials, her 60-year-old husband acquired possible symptoms of bird flu but he had recovered.

Hong Kong health officials has raised bird flu alert to “serious” which means there is a high risk of contracting the disease. They have also heightened precautions by testing patients with severe pneumonia for bird flu.

Health officials in Hong Kong are also urging the public to take precautions.
