Facebook and Google dispute over Gmail Contacts

By on Nov 9, 2010 in Internet, Technology Comments

Google decided to block the automatic process of exporting Gmail contacts to Facebook, according to international news sites. The popular social networking site, thus, created a solution for its users to transfer their Gmail contacts to Facebook.

To export Gmail contacts to Facebook, a button was provided to allow its users to copy their contacts, first, to the local drive of their computers and then upload it to Facebook.

The decision of blocking Gmail data from being accessed automatically by Facebook was made by Google, because the social networking site does not share its data to the search engine giant. Just recently, Microsoft and Facebook has come up with a deal to allow Bing to power the social network’s search.

Considered as the most popular networking site to date, Facebook now has 500 million users.
