Erik Spoelstra and LeBron James are getting closer as the going gets tougher, according to reports by several international sports sites. The infamous bumpgate in November 27, 2010 is all but a thing of the past.

Bumpgate was coined after James walked past an angry Spoelstra that send his right shoulder into his coach’s right shoulder.

The controversial bump resurrected the Heat to gain the league’s best record and home-court advantage in the 2011 NBA finals, wherein Game 1 will be played against Dallas at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida on Tuesday night.

The whole Miami organization was all praises for Spoelstra, the young Heat head coach.

Miami owner Micky Arison reiterated that “From Day 1, we’ve had a high level of confidence that Spo’s a good coach.” He added that “Pat’s had full confidence in him. I’ve had full confidence in him. We knew that this would be an unbelievable challenge. … And what is amazing to me is how even-keeled he was throughout the season.”

Heat star guard Dwyane Wade said that coach Spo has “done great.” Wade added Spo’s “the same, man, no matter what, and we appreciate that because we know what we’re going to get from him.”

James said in a statement that “I knew my communication with the head coach had to become better.” He added that during the “Seventeen games into the season, it wasn’t as great as it is now, of course. It’s definitely grown. It should grow.”

Spoelstra describe bumpgate as “a good starting moment for LeBron and I, just from the standpoint that we both realized, ‘Hey, this is bizarre, the spotlight and the story lines that are developing with this team.’ The two of us seemed to be a lightning rod for it. We understood we’re in this together and the only way we’d all figure this out is if we got on the same page.”

At 40-years-old, coach Spo is four wins away from delivering a championship to the Heat franchise.
