Emma Sullivan, Student, Refused to Apologize for Tweet about Kansas Gov. Brownback, Gained Support from Twitter and Facebook Users

Emma Sullivan, a senior high school student from Kansas had refused to apologize for her tweet stating that Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback “sucked.” Many had sympathized with her as evidenced by more than 9,000 Twitter followers who have listed her. This was disclosed by several U.S. news sites, November 28, 2011.

Apparently, even her Facebook fan page, with 2,533 likes to date, was also created to support Emma Sullivan.

According to these reports, Sullivan was asked to apologize but refused. Gov. Brownback reportedly, was the one who had apologized in the end, citing that tweets are included in the “Freedom of Speech.

Brownback reportedly said that his staff “overreacted” and that Sullivan need not apologize. He also added that:

“Freedom of speech is among our most treasured freedoms.”
