EMC Corporation Acquires NetWitness

Information infrastructure giant EMC Corporation acquires NetWitness, a privately-held provider of network security analysis solutions. According to the press release posted at EMC website on April 4, 2011, EMC’s acquisition of NetWitness closed on April 1, 2011, and NetWitness will now operate as a part of RSA, The Security Division of EMC.

“The intensity and sophistication of advanced adversaries and zero day malware challenge every organization to rethink traditional approaches to network security,” said Tom Heiser, President of RSA, The Security Division of EMC. “NetWitness has redefined the security landscape, providing a powerful solution for organizations seeking to gain immediate insight, precise clarity, and timely closure in the face of the toughest cyber threats” Heiser added.

“The NetWitness team will continue to focus on what you already have come to expect from us: delivery and support of the most advanced network security solutions in the industry” said Amit Yoran, CEO of NetWitness in an email sent to NetWitness customers. “This same passion and commitment is shared by EMC and RSA. Moving forward, you will benefit from the power of EMC and RSA, including an unmatched technology infrastructure, a global team of sales and services personnel, and an expansive partner ecosystem”, Yoran added.

The acquisition is seen by industry observers as a boost to RSA security offerings. Financial terms of the deal were undisclosed.
