Elton John sings for Elizabeth Taylor, pays respect to friend, fellow artists mourn

Singer Elton John sang for Elizabeth Taylor on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, and paid respect to her long time friend, as other fellow artists mourned her lost.

Elizabeth Taylor passed away at the age of 79 on Wednesday morning due to congestive heart failure, who was hospitalized about six weeks ago.

“We have just lost a Hollywood giant, but more importantly we have lost an incredible human being,” Elton John said in a statement, stressing out the late actress’ campaign for AIDS/HIV awareness.

Elton John and Elizabeth Taylor have been working together for years in raising money and awareness about AIDS/HIV, with both of them had separately established AIDS foundations.

On his concert on Wednesday night at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Elton John paid respect to his friend Liz Taylor before he sang “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me“.

“Today I lost a friend and you lost a hero named Elizabeth Taylor,” the British singer said in front of the audience that night.

“She was not just a movie star; although she was a huge movie star and there will never be anyone like her again … She was without a doubt one of the greatest people I’ve ever met in my life.” The 63-year old icon singer said.

“God bless you, Elizabeth. God knows how we’re going to replace you. This is for you and your beautiful memory and for all the people you helped and saved.” Elton John added.

Meanwhile, other Hollywood celebrities and fellow artists joined the mourning of the loss of Elizabeth Taylor.

“R.I.P. Elizabeth Taylor an incomparable legend who will live forever.” Mariah Carey tweets.

Elizabeth was the last great movie star. And a great human being. What I’ll always remember about Elizabeth was her laugh…It’s a very sad day for me.” Barry Manilow told US Weekly.

“I am so saddened about the passing of Elizabeth Taylor! She will always be my idol!” Kim Kardashian tweets, who interviewed the late actress March issue of Harper’s Bazaar.

“Dame Elizabeth Taylor, surely the last of a breed…” Singer George Michael was quoted as saying.

“The amazing Liz Taylor, goddess, actress, aids activist and one of the worlds true beauties!” Singer Boy George told reports.
