Eiffel Tower in Paris was evacuated on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 due to a reported mysterious package, according to a report by the Eiffel Tower operator.

About 3,000 people were evacuated immediately after authorities received an anonymous phone call.

Reports say that the Eiffel Tower is considered as one of the world’s most visited tourist sites.

Eiffel Tower was also evacuated twice in September 2010 due to bomb alerts.

According to authorities, they have been receiving information that suicide attacks will be carried out on the Paris urban transport network since last year.

Operators re-opened the tower around 1900 (2 p.m. EST) after getting clearance from security officials who conducted searches in the area.
