Dr. Carmelo Cunanan: PRC’s 2011 Outstanding Professional of the Year Award in Physical Therapy

MANILA, Philippines – The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) has chosen Dr. Carmelo C. Cunanan as the recipient of the 2011 “Outstanding Professional of the Year Award” in the field of Physical Therapy. This was disclosed by PRC, June 22, 2011.

Dr. Cunanan is a graduate of B.S. Physical Therapy and Doctor of Philosophy from the Angeles University Foundation, Pampanga, where he serves as a Clinical Internship Coordinator and a faculty.

Dr. Cunanan has always been a prime mover of the Physical Therapy education in Region III and in the Philippines. He had served as a president of the Philippine Physical Therapy Association (PPTA) in 2006, and had led the Filipino PT delegation to The 10th International Congress of the Asian Confederation of Physical Therapy (ACPT), which was held in Makuhari-Messe, Japan, the succeeding year.

Dr. Cunanan was also an observer to the World Health Organization Regional Committee for the Western Pacific (WPRO.) He assumed a significant role under CHED for the advancement of the Physical Therapy education in the Philippines for several years now.

According to PRC, “The Outstanding Professional of the Year Award

“is the highest award given by the Commission to a professional, as recommended by his/her peers for having amply demonstrated professional competence of the highest degree and conducted himself/herself with integrity in the exercise of his/her profession, participated meaningfully in professional activities through professional organizations, contributed significantly to the effective discharge of the profession’s social responsibility through meaningful contribution /participation in socio-related activities.”

The award was accorded during the PRC Award’s Night, June 22, 2011, Wednesday, 5 p.m. GMT at the Fiesta Pavilion, Manila Hotel.
