Doodle 4 Google 2011 Winner Is Matteo Lopez With ‘Space Life’ Logo (Photo)

Matteo Lopez, a seven-year old from South San Francisco, California, was hailed as the national winner of the 2011 Doodle 4 Google contest for his logo entry named, ‘Space Life’, according to reports by several international news sites.

He won a $15,000 college scholarship, a netbook computer and a $25,000 technology grant for his school, Monte Verde Elementary School. His doodle will be featured on the U.S. homepage on May 20, 2011.

According to reports, Lopez revealed that his inspiration is Neil Armstrong, and his dream is to “meet other people in different planets and go to other planets I haven’t been to … I’ve only been to Earth.”

Other national finalists were Joseph Eugene Miller (Grade 4), Justas Varpucanskis (Grade 7) and Hannah Newsom (Grade 11). They will receive $5,000 college scholarship.

The Doodle 4 Google competition, being on its fourth year in the US, gives K-12 students the chance to redesign Google’s homepage logo. The theme for this year’s competition is “What I’d Like To Do Someday”.
