Dolphin Bites 8-Year-Old At SeaWorld OrlandoBy May Shella Mojana-Macuha on Dec 3, 2012 in Animals, Lifestyle, United States •
A dolphin bites an 8-year-old girl at SeaWorld Orlando, international news sites reported on Sunday, December 2, 2012.
According to reports, Jillian Thomas was happily feeding one of the dolphins at SeaWorld on November 21 when one of them jumped out of the water and bit her hand. Jillian apparently made a mistake of lifting a small plate of dolphin food in the air, something the park warns people not to do.
“The first thing I thought was I would have to jump in water and save my daughter’s life. I literally thought she was going to be pulled into the water,” Jillian‘s father, Jamie Thomas, reportedly told Orlando Sentinel.
“Thank God it didn’t pull her in the water. It’s only a matter of time before someone gets seriously injured at this attraction,” Thomas wrote in a video of the incident he posted in Youtube.
Meanwhile, SeaWorld spokesman Nick Gollattscheck released the following statement about the video, as quoted by CF News 13:
“Nothing is more important to us than the health and safety of our guests, employees and animals. Educators and animal care staff are always on-site at this area, monitoring all interactions and are committed to guest safety.
Educators and animal care staff were at the attraction when this happened and immediately connected with the family. In addition, a member of our health services team was in the area at Dolphin Cove and quickly responded and treated the young girl.
The video had not been previously shared with us and we have not had a chance to assess it, but certainly take the situation seriously.”
Jillian got a set of teeth marks the size of a dime from the encounter, reports said.
