Is the Disney rabbit racist? Well, this is what a family said after they visited Disneyland in California last year. In fact, they sued the world famous amusement park, claiming that The White Rabbit, a character from Alice in Wonderland, refused to be touched by their children. As reported by Fox5 San Diego on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, the Black family had a trip to Disneyland last August, and their son Jason Black Jr. wanted to touch and hug the Disney white rabbit. However, the man inside the mascot allegedly refused and avoided himself to be hugged, but agreed to pose for photo.

“I went to hug him but he turned his back. It’s made me feel sad because I wanted to really hug him.” Jason Jr., 6, told the report, whose older brother Elijah Black allegedly suffered the same situation. Their parents, Jason LeRoy Black Sr. and Annelia Black, said they also saw the incident.

The Rabbit was turning his back on him like he didn’t want to touch him. Then I went up and tried to hold his hand but he kept flicking my hand off.” Elijah Black said, with father Jason Sr. noting that he initially thought there was a new rule saying that Disney mascots are not anymore allowed to be touched by children.

But moments later, the Black family saw the White Rabbit hugging white kids. Jason Sr said that the scene was very disappointing, especially for their children. They immediately complained to the management, and showed them photos of their children with the Disney rabbit, to prove that they have been discriminated.

“They’re not trying to get something they don’t deserve. In fact all they’ve asked for is a little bit of recognition that this should not have happened.” Dan Gilleon, the Black family’s lawyer, adding that his client is simply asking Disneyland to issue a public apology and fire the employee behind the alleged racist White Rabbit.
