As noted at entertainment news sites on Saturday, January 28, 2012, the DGA 2012 winners were announced that night, which was held at the Grand Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland.

The 64th annual Directors Guild of America Awards was hosted by Kelsey Grammer, and is being considered as one of the most precise forecasts to win the 2012 Oscars, this coming February 26.

“It’s maybe the highest recognition I could hope. I really love directors, I over-respect directors. This is very moving and touching to me,” Hazanavicius was quoted as saying while accepting his “Outstanding Director of the Year in Feature Film” award.

Best director — I really don’t know what that means. All movies are different, so it’s a strange thing to try to compare them and say which is best, but I’m very happy to get this. Thank you.” he added, who was also a first time nominee in the DGA Awards.

Hazanavicius received a standing ovation after his speech, beating four other directors including Martin Scorsese, who won the Best Director for the film “Hugo” in the 2012 Golden Globe Awards, which both of them included in the 2012 Oscars nominations.

The “Outstanding Director of the Year” award was presented by Tom Hooper, 2011 DGA Awards winner in the same category for his film “The King’s Speech“, with fellow nominee Woody Allen not present that night.

Meanwhile, three special awards were also given and are as follows: Ed Sherin named as Honorary Life Member; Katy Garretson for the Frank Capra Achievement Award; and Dennis Mazzocco for the Franklin J. Schaffner Achievement Award.
