According to US news sites on Wednesday, Rev. David Wilkerson did not survive after his car smashed to tractor-trailer in East Texas as told by Texas Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Tela Mange.

David Wilkerson, who also founded the Times Square Church in New York City in 1987, was said to be with his wife Gwendolyn when the collision happened.

Mange said that Mr. Wilkerson was not wearing a seat belt, while Gwendolyn was wearing one and is now in a stable condition in a hospital.

Apparently, Wilkerson’s death was also confirmed by his family through the official website of World Challenge Inc, describing it as he “went to be with Jesus“.

“We appreciate your prayers and our hearts are sorrowful, yet we rejoice at the joy of knowing David Wilkerson spent his life well,” the statement said.

David Wilkerson is also the author of the best-selling book, “The Cross and the Switchblade,” and has founded Teen Challenge in 1958, an evangelical Christian recovery program for drug addicts.
