David Foster awarded BMI Icon BMI Pop Music Awards 2011, winners announced

David Foster was awarded the BMI Icon during the BMI Pop Music Awards 2011 on Tuesday, May 17, 2011, as the winners for different categories were also announced.

As noted at BMI’s official website, David Foster, songwriter-producer and a mentor of Pinay singing sensation Charice Pempengco, was awarded the BMI Icon for his “unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers”.

Foster, 61, is also a three-time BMI Pop Songwriter of the Year and has garnered 42 BMI awards over four consecutive decades. He also produced songs for Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Whitney Houston, Madonna, Michael Jackson, among others.

The 59th annual BMI Pop Music Awards, which was held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles, was hosted by BMI President and CEO Del Bryant, BMI Vice President/General Manager Barbara Cane and BMI Senior Vice President Phil Graham.

Apparently, BMI awarded Pop Songwriters of the Year which went to JR Rotem, Jason Derulo and Lady Gaga, as they have contributed four songs each in this year’s most-performed list.

Meanwhile, Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now” won as the Pop Song of the Year which was written by Dave Haywood and Charles Kelly; and published by DWHaywood Music, RadioBullet Publishing and Warner-Tamerlane Publishing Corp.

On the other hand, the Pop Publisher of the Year award went to Sony/ATV Songs LLC, in which 16 of its songs were among this most-performed list including “Bad Romance”, “Telephone”, “Replay” and “Alejandro”.
