The Los Angeles Galaxy, one of US Major League Soccer‘s prized teams, will visit the Philippines to play a friendly game against Azkals on Saturday, December 03, 2011 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium, according to several local news reports on Thursday, October 27.

Mr. Thomas Payne, president of LA Galaxy told reports that their top players including David Beckham, a high-profile sports celebrity will be joining the exhibition match. He will be joined by Landon Donovan, US senior national team player and Robby Keane, an Ireland national squad member.

“We’re looking forward to playing in front of a crowd that’s in front of the action. It’s gonna be a really memorable night for this community and for the sport of soccer,” Mr. Thomas Payne was quoted as saying.

As part of their promotional tour in Asia and Australia, the Galaxy will arrive in Manila on December 1 and will conduct a football clinic next day, for the benefit of ABS-CBN’s Bantay Bata, before the exhibition match.

“This is part of what we do which is to help promote the sport,” Payne revealed in a press conference at the Makati Shangri-La.

“And coming from a market like this where the country is starting to be football crazy and put a kind of game like this is good for the sport,” he added.

Moreover, Payne gave a ‘thumbs up’ for the 15,000-seater Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, although it is quite smaller than the stadiums that the team has played in other countries.

“It was wonderful. It was more than what we expected. We look forward to playing at a small venue where the crowd is close to the action,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Dan Palami, Azkals team manager told reports that he has sent out invitations to the players.

“I will personally get in touch with them to make sure that their attendance is ensured for this historical event,” Palami was quoted as saying.

Apparently, some of the LA Galaxy players who showed their willingness to play are Ray Jonsson, Dennis Cagara and Jerry Lucena.
