David Beckham hopes FIFA favors England in World Cup 2018 hosting bid

David Beckham is positive that Fifa will judge based on merits and vote for England as host of the 2018 World Cup, according to international sports sites. Beckham was an influential figure in London‘s successful bid for the 2012 Olympics.

On Thursday, December 2, 2010 in Fifa Headquarters in Zurich, the 22 Fifa executive members will vote for the 2018 and 2022 host of the World Cup.

England Prime Minister David Cameron, former England captain Beckham, and Prince William formed part of a 30-strong England 2018 delegation who went to Zurich to make a last-minute effort to lobby for support.

“I think that we can trust every one of the members,” according to Beckham. ” To have that weight behind the bid is a huge thing for us,” he added.

On Tuesday, Prince William was able to have a meeting with Fifa members like Rafael Salguero, Mohamed Bin Hammam and Chuck Blazer. He also had a breakfast meeting with Nicolas Leoz on Wednesday. Cameron has met Fifa president Sepp Blatter. He also had a chance to talk with other members of the Fifa executive committee like Warner and Hayatou,

There are five countries that are bidding for the 2022 World Cup and this includes Australia, Japan, Qatar, South Korea and the United States. For the 2018 World Cup hosting, the bidders are England, Russia, Spain/Portugal and Netherlands/Belgium. The winning hosts for both 2018 and 2022 World Cup is expected to be announced by 1500 GMT on Thursday.
