Davao flash flood has already taken the lives of over 30 individuals, according to reports by several local news sites on Saturday, July 2, 2011.

In a morning interview with DZMM radio today, DOST Undersecretary Graciano Yumul said, that the flash flood experienced in Davao was caused by an Inter-tropical convergence zone (ITCZ) that has been there for over three weeks now.

Yumul explained that an ITCZ results into a low pressure area (LPA) that usually brings sudden rainshowers that lead to flash floods and landslides.

Meanwhile, Yumul said that the southwest monsoon will continue to prevail until September. This means that more rains brought about by LPA, and tropical storms are expected in the coming days.
