Danica Flores Magpantay won the Supermodel of the World 2011 in New York City

Danica Flores Magpantay, a 17-year old Filipina, won the 2011 Supermodel of the World, according to international news sites. The contest, with 70 Supermodel participants from different countries, was held in New York City on Saturday, January 22, 2011.

Danica Flores Magpantay, a Fine Arts student at the University of the Philippines (UP), is the first Filipina to win as Supermodel of the World. The Philippines is the second Asian country to win the title, next to South Korea. Magpantay is the daughter of registered nurse Pogs Magpantay and professional make-up artist, Milagros ‘Lala’ Flores, a Supermodel titleholder in the Philippines 20 years ago. The 5’9″ Filipina won a US$250,000 contract from the Eileen Ford Modeling Agency, reportedly the fashion industry’s biggest prize for a model search. According to Magpantay, her biggest dream is to become one of Victoria’s Secret top models.

Other winners in the Ford Models – Supermodel of the World 2010 are:

  • First runner-up –  Lithuania, won a US$150,000 modeling contract,
  • Second runner-up – Poland, took home US$100,000,
  • Third runner-up – Brazil,
  • Fourth runner-up – Poland.

In the 2010 Supermodel of the World, Chat Almarvez  is the first runner-up winner.
